The Infinite Chess Programme has officially launched at Chimutu Primary School in Lilongwe, Malawi, in partnership with Dadaz Chess Academy. The school’s existing resource centre supports children with special educational needs, making it a fitting home for an inclusive chess initiative.

The launch event welcomed 15 children, who were introduced to chess. The children were enthusiastic and excited to participate in the programme. Among the participants were autistic children and other children with special educational needs.

Starting soon, two Dadaz Chess Academy coaches will lead chess lessons at the school once a week, every Friday. The sessions will give children regular opportunities to learn and enjoy chess in an inclusive and supportive environment.

Safeguarding and consent are central to the programme. Parents have already provided verbal approval for photographs to be taken during the programme. Formal consent forms will also be sent to all parents to ensure that consent for photography and programme participation is properly documented.

The launch marked an important first step in establishing the Infinite Chess Programme at Chimutu Primary School. The positive response from the children provides a strong foundation for the weekly sessions and the continued development of inclusive chess activities at the school.

Next steps for the programme include beginning the weekly Friday chess sessions led by two coaches, distributing and collecting formal parental consent forms, monitoring attendance, participation and engagement, and documenting programme activities and progress for future reporting.
