The power of chess to foster inclusion and break down barriers was on full display at the first-ever World Youth Leadership Forum, where young leaders from across the globe gathered to share how the game is transforming lives in their communities.
Among the standout presentations was the Infinite Chess Project, led by the project’s partner Kindness On Board Foundation. Represented by President Jonathan Chen and Director of Events Andrew Zhen, the organization delivered a compelling speech highlighting its ongoing work to make chess accessible to children with autism. Their presentation underscored the project’s mission to use chess as a tool for cognitive development, social connection, and personal growth for individuals of all abilities.
The Forum, hosted by the International Social Chess Foundation (ISCF) and supported by FIDE Social Chess Commission (SOC), brought together an inspiring group of young advocates from countries including Switzerland, El Salvador, Ukraine, and Romania. Each delegation shared unique stories of how they have introduced chess into their communities to improve quality of life, foster education, and create supportive environments.
The Kindness On Board Foundation also highlighted its Queens Move Program, an initiative dedicated to empowering women and girls through the game of chess. By championing both Infinite Chess and Queens Move, Jonathan Chen and Andrew Zhen demonstrated the organization’s broad commitment to social inclusion—ensuring that chess is a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of neurodiversity or gender.
“The event was a powerful reminder that chess is more than a game—it is a vehicle for kindness, connection, and change,” said the Kindness On Board Foundation in a statement. “We thank the International Social Chess Foundation and FIDE SOC for hosting this remarkable event and are looking forward to supporting future forums.”
The World Youth Leadership Forum, born from the vision of ISCF founder Kristen Hou, serves as a global platform for young changemakers to connect, collaborate, and inspire one another.
