FIDE Infinite Chess Project

On March 1, 2025, Chess2all organized the “Chess for All” event, bringing together people of all ages and genders to celebrate inclusion through chess! This initiative marked three special moments: the Zero Discrimination Day (UN), the 1st anniversary of Chess2all as a partner of the FIDE Infinite Chess project—bringing chess to communities with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)—and the Women in Chess Month (WOM).

The event featured a variety of activities, including recreational games, an open lesson, and a special simultaneous exhibition with 12 young talents, including participants from the Infinite Chess program.

The event kicked off with an inspiring opening ceremony that celebrated inclusion and diversity, coinciding with the United Nations’ Zero Discrimination Day. The event, which featured the special participation of the Infinite Chess class from Portugal, was a true reflection of chess power to bring people together, regardless of age, background, or ability.

The ceremony was marked by powerful speeches from prominent figures in the chess world, each sharing their commitment to promoting social change and inclusion through the game of chess.

Susana Gonçalves, FIDE WOM, President of Chess2all, and Director of Social Chess Projects, opened the ceremony with a heartfelt address emphasizing the importance of chess as a tool for social integration and empowerment. She highlighted the role of Chess2all in reaching diverse communities and expressed her deep commitment to creating opportunities for everyone, regardless of their circumstances.

Anastasia Sorokina, Leader of the FIDE Infinite Chess project and President of FIDE WOM, followed with a moving speech that highlighted the transformative power of the Infinite Chess program. She spoke about how the initiative reaches communities with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), particularly the students of the Infinite Chess class, and how these young players are thriving through the inclusion of chess in their lives.

Malcolm Pein, Vice-President of the European Chess Union (ECU) and Leader of the Chess in Schools & Communities (CSC) educational project, also took the stage, reinforcing the idea that chess is a universal language that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and inclusion. He mentioned participating in a Infinite Chess Seminar recently and focus the remarkable tool chess is for ASD.

WIM Joara Chaves, a prominent Brazilian International Master, Olympic player, and promoter of women’s chess, shared her perspective on the growing inclusion of women in chess and the importance of mentorship and support in shaping the future of the game.
WIM Jussara Chaves, Women International Master, Portuguese Olympic player, and Senior National Champion, spoke about the importance of fostering diversity and encouraging young talents, particularly women and underrepresented groups, to embrace chess as a path to personal growth and empowerment.
Tânia Chéu, developping innovation and vice-president of Chess2All in Portugal, also added her voice, emphasizing the importance of equal opportunities for all players through chess, regardless of gender, and celebrating the diverse talent within the chess community.

The Infinite Chess class from Portugal was celebrated for their remarkable participation in the event. These young players, many of whom have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), were warmly recognized for their hard work, progress, and enthusiasm in the game. Their involvement in the event was a testament to the power of chess to create a more inclusive environment where everyone can participate and thrive, regardless of their challenges.

An Unforgettable Chess Simultaneous took place same day, bringing together 12 young players, including participants from the Infinite Chess program, for an unforgettable experience. These talented children showcased their skills against some of the best in the game, including renowned chess personalities and champions.

The event began with a special reminder of the rules by Augusto Fonseca, the dedicated Chess2all coach, who ensured all players were ready for the challenge. Then, the exhibition kicked off with Vitorino Dias Ferreira, President of the Dias Ferreira Sport Group and international arbitrer, making the very first move of the simultaneous games, setting the tone for the exciting battles to follow.

To Make inclusive moves this event gave to participants from all ages and gender the unique opportunity to be with international chess celebraties.

The event was not only a showcase of talent but also a celebration of inclusion and empowerment through chess. The 12 young players, including the students from the Infinite Chess program, showed remarkable enthusiasm, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the event.

The Infinite Chess class, in particular, had a special role in this exhibition, highlighting the power of chess as a tool for bringing together diverse communities, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

It was a day of inspiration, learning, and fun, where the future of chess was on full display, and every move was a testament to the growth and potential of these young players. It aims to promote social, cultural, and recreational activities for local residents.
