South African partner of the project Kanthi Sarjoo was invited to speak on The Infinite Chess project at the Durban International Book Fair.
The chess tournament organised by the KZN Chess Academy was also organized on the same day. The kids couldn’t wait to start playing. Some people were dressed as book characters which created a very warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Around 60 people visited the event. Some parents and relatives of kids with autism, educators, and students. The audience was very engaged and asked meaningful questions. Most important ones being about the development of the programme.
The interest of the general public in this project was positive. It is hoped the next step will be to have a conversation with the Department of Education and see how the initiative can move forward.
A day well spent!
